On the occasion of declaring 2005 as "Urban Development Year", the Hon" Cheif Minister had released the Vision Document, wherein an announcement was made to form Urban Development Mission.

With this backdrop and to ensure rightful spending of GOI's funds under AMRUT / SMART CITY, the Government of Gujarat constituted Gujarat Urban Development Mission (GUDM) and designated the same as a nodal agency for AMRUT / SMART CITY.

The objective of the Mission is to support urban renewal and urban infrastructure development in the given timeframe for attaining better living standards, amenities and creating a congenial environment for people to live and work, in the urban areas of Gujarat.
